Community Update

The early morning was bright and nothing seemed undone. it felt weird to be somehow be aware that much had been done and far before noon, too. Much had been said among the assembled 12 Steppers. As I was to find out much more would be said before the lunch hour.
You hear a lot of talk about  everyone having a story. It's not a competition, and no one's story is anymore a sad but true testimony to the evils and cruelty of life. I have to say though, some stories are worse than others. There are true tales of the tragic and bizarre that stand as a  witness to how one just never knows. How there being nothing for sure about this human existence. As someone once said, life isn't fair.
These 12 Steppers are part of a homeless community that are ministered to by an inner city church in Phoenix. One of the participants, a young woman named Tina, is relating how she became homeless. Apparently it was a direct result of a breakup of a boyfriend girlfriend relationship. That seems to be a common experience in the World of The Street. Maybe it's a common experience of the human condition. Of society.
I just know that it happens. Sometimes in ways sickeningly cruel. This young woman is talking about why her boyfriend threw her out into the street. She hooked up with a strange man she met on Social Media and the creep tricked her into a drug habit. When the boyfriend found out the girl had cheated he blew his stack. He didn't know about the drugs or how deep his partner's addiction had become. He didn't care about any of that.
A few weeks later the guy hears his ex is on the street and living on a roof in a back alley somewhere. You have to go around the back of the building. There's a parking lot and a short, narrow driveway going to where he thought he'd find her. He felt horrified when he heard she was sleeping out doors and living in the street. After all he thought of himself as a christian. He had known love with her and they had been tight. Or so he thought. Still, he could find it in his heart to go to her and see if he could help. He couldn't just leave her like that. Even though she had been carrying on with another man for months.
So the guy goes looking for his wife. They aren't divorced. He just put her out and she left. He didn't know where too. He imagined to be with her lover. He didn't know that the strange man she had met over the web had since rejected her. He didn't know that his wife stopped feeling anything for her boyfriend and when they were quits she ran to the dope without skipping a beat. The drugs had a hard, firm  and unrelenting grip. They had become her life and she was not remorseful because she had lost the ability to feel anything. Let alone remorse. All she knew was how intensely good the drugs felt. So good she could never resist them or live without them. Love is blind and she had fallen for drugs and had a romance with a narcotic. Chemistry did the rest and nature took it's course.

This woman's husband found her where they said she would be. After seeing her in action for about three hours he walked away and gave up on her. She was screaming, but not for help. Apparently...
