Roosevelt (1-1) holds one clear, distinct advantage over Franklin and that’s size, according to Jaimes. He said the Rough Riders are especially dominating on the front, offensive and defensive lines.
FHS (2-0) has prepped for the expected mismatches by practicing staying low to the ground on defense. Additionally, Jaimes said he’s told his team to not stand straight up or pick one-on-one battles, rather attempt to draw a double team instead.
QB UPDATE
There’s still . Camas was injured during the first half of Franklin’s season opening win over Northview High School.
Joshua Taylor will start his second game as Camas’ replacement. Despite having a few misreads against Poly, Taylor had a solid game in which he ran for one touchdown and threw for another.
Taylor, who had suffered a minor (contusion) injury against Northview, was able to practice the entire week and is almost 100 percent healthy.
CONTAIN
Jaimes main concern is stopping Roosevelt’s number one threat, Andony Flores. The senior quarterback rushed for 140 yards on 19 carries and threw for 24 yards against Montebello, including a 52 yard touchdown run.
“He’s most of their offense, so if we can stop that we should be okay,” Jaimes said.
Roosevelt’s first two games of this season have been decided by narrow margins, losing 21-19 at Montebello in their season opener and picking up a 7-0 win against Wilson last week.
The Panthers beat the Rough Riders by one touchdown last season in a 22-16 victory at home.
Jaimes said, “I think if we’re able to pass the ball and catch the ball, we should be fine.”
