Gun Battle Erupts In Mount Washington Car Chase

LOS ANGELES, CA — Two suspected car thieves exchanged gunfire with police during a car chase in the Mount Washington area early Monday morning.

The gun battle happened at about 12:10 a.m. as Los Angeles Police officers chase the car near Figueroa Street and Avenue 52, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The suspects drove a white Honda Civic, and kept going to the area of Aldama Street and Avenue 50. Following the shootout, the suspects ditched the car and fled on foot into the surrounding neighborhood, police said.

Police officers set up a perimeter to contain the suspects and captured both men. They were arrested, and one was taken to a hospital for treatment. No officers were injured in the shootout. Investigators believe they recovered the gun used by the suspects.
