My name is Josh Buck and I’m the pastor at a new church in Highland Park called Antioch. I coach 8-year-old kids baseball at the HLP Recreation Center, serve as President of the Park Advisor Board, and am in love with Highland Park.

One of the ways our church has tried to serve Highland Park over the last three months is by launching a social experiment called “Highland Park Is _____” We have interviewed over 100 people spread across three NELA Art-Walks. We setup a small lighting system, put down a chair, and give people 30 seconds on camera to answer the question, “What is Highland Park?” Instead of our church going into the community to tell people what to think we want to know what you think and why--no strings attached. The interviews are raw, unscripted, and a genuine expression of what York folk think about this town.
VIDEO PREMIER
At Antioch City Church on Sunday, September 14th at 11am we are premiering the short film. The film will be a creative synthesis (combination of) everyone’s answers. Immediately following the premier we are launching a 7-week series called The City where I will be answering the question, “What does God think about our city?” At Antioch we don’t force baptize, don’t have snake charmers, and I don’t wear a suit. Even if you are not interest in church, we would love to see you at the premier and shake your hand.
ONGOING INTERVIEWING
Interviewing people on York is only half the story. We will be migrating over to Figueroa for the fall Art-Walks to get a different flavor or interviews. We have enough hipsters, HLP newcomers, and “Yorkies” on tape and now are looking to interview what has been the heart and soul of this area for a long time.
