Las Casas Realty Owner Pleads No Contest to Obstruction of Justice in Rape Case
George Izquierdo and a co-defendant will be sentenced on May 22.
Two men, including a Highland Park real estate broker, pleaded no contest today to conspiring to obstruct justice in connection with a plot to keep a sexual assault victim from testifying against the businessman's son.
George Izquierdo, the 64-year-old owner of , and Camilo
Valentin, 36, are each facing up to three years in county jail when they are
sentenced May 22 by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lance Ito, according to
the District Attorney's Office.
Private investigator Bradley Miller, who was charged along with the two,
pleaded no contest in October 2009 to one count of conspiracy to obstruct
justice and three counts of offering to bribe a witness. Miller, now 51, is
facing up to five years in county jail when he is sentenced May 17.
The three were charged in June 2006 after a woman who had begun
testifying against Izquierdo's son, Alex, disappeared during a preliminary
hearing in 2005.
An investigation by the District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation
determined that the woman was taken to Las Vegas and given money to stop her from testifying against Alex Izquierdo, who later pleaded guilty to two counts of sodomy and one count of making a criminal threat.
Alex Izquierdo was sentenced in February 2009 to almost 22 years in state prison.
