Transient Suspected Of Setting Fires Snarling Several LA Freeways

Police arrested a man suspected of starting a series of fires that tied up rush hour traffic along the freeways of the East Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man described as a transient was arrested Monday in connection with a series of non-injury brush fires that helped snarl rush hour traffic as firefighters fought the flames along the freeways of the East Los Angeles interchange.

Seventy-seven firefighters responded to the blazes, which were reported about 5:30 p.m. near the 1000 block of South Soto Street, along the interchange of the Pomona (60), Golden State (5) and Hollywood (101) freeways, according to Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It took crews about an hour and 10 minutes to knock down the flames, which did not threaten any structures, Bastman said.
