American Music Awards Nominations: Drake Shatters the Record

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Nominees for the American Music Awards were announced today, with Drake leading the pack with 13 -- shattering a 32-year record for the most nods in a single year -- followed by Rihanna with seven.

Adele and Justin Bieber also were among the top nominees for the fan- voted award show, with five nominations each, while Beyonce and The Chainsmokers each got four nods.

Bryson Tiller, Twenty One Pilots, Carrie Underwood, Fetty Wap and The Weeknd each earned three nominations.

"Artist of the Year" contenders are Adele, Beyonce, Bieber, Drake, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Twenty One Pilots, Underwood and The Weeknd. The field will be narrowed to five based on votes received through Nov. 17, with the winner determined by the total votes received throughout the entire voting period.

Drake's 13 nominations marked the largest number since Michael Jackson got 11 in 1984.

Voting opened today in all categories except "New Artist of the Year," which will open on Nov. 2. Fans can vote via AMAvote.com, or by posting a tweet on Twitter that includes the nominee's Twitter handle, the category name and an #AMAs hashtag within the post.

The awards will be presented at the Microsoft Theatre at LA Live on Nov. 20 and be aired on ABC.
