EAST HOLLYWOOD, CA — A 44-year-old man shot to death while walking down a street in East Hollywood was identified by county authorities Tuesday.
His name was Manuel Barcelo, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office. It was not immediately clear where he lived.
Barcelo was gunned down and died on a sidewalk at about 10:10 p.m. Sunday in the 4300 block of Melrose Avenue, at Berendo Street, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.
He was walking with another man from a liquor store and the witness walked ahead, the officer said.
The witness heard several gunshots and ran back, where he found the mortally wounded victim and a firearm next to him. A suspect was seen driving westbound on Melrose, but no further description was available.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced Barcelo dead at the scene.
Investigators believed the shooting was gang related, the spokesman said.
