HOLLYWOOD, CA — Repairs were underway Tuesday on Dolly Parton's Hollywood Walk of Fame star after someone apparently vandalized it by scratching over the late country music icon's name.

The star had become the site of a large memorial of flowers, cards and other tributes following Parton's death at age 80.

Ana Martinez of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said the Hollywood Historic Trust, which maintains the stars, had already planned to repair Parton's star because of existing cracks. The memorial was cleared to allow that work to proceed.

After the star was cleared, however, someone damaged it, Martinez said.

A woman named Lore Corona posted video to social media Monday showing extensive scratches across Parton's name. Corona said she and her daughters had gone to the star to leave flowers but discovered the damage shortly before they arrived.

Corona said a custodian told her a woman had kicked candles left at the memorial and used a broken piece to scratch the star.

TMZ reported that a fan also notified the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce that flowers had been taken from the memorial and the star had been scratched.

Parton received the Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 1984.
