LOS ANGELES, CA — A cable company van partially sank into a sinkhole that opened up at a Los Feliz intersection Wednesday afternoon following a water main break.
The sinkhole opened at Franklin and Normandie avenues, swallowing the front end of the Spectrum van as water flooded the intersection, according to a witness' report from the scene.
Aerial footage showed the van sinking deeper into the damaged roadway as water rushed down Normandie Avenue, KTLA reported.
Firefighters and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews responded to the scene to shut off the water and assess the damage, according to KTLA.
A Spectrum spokesperson told Patch a technician was working in the area when the sinkhole opened. The worker was not injured.
The break involved an 8-inch main and was reported just after 11 a.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of North Normandie Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
An LADWP spokeswoman said crews were on the scene working on repairs and assessing if the area was safe to access.
Streets were closed for about a block in each direction, the station reported. The flooding did not appear to be affecting nearby homes.
