On June 5, street artist Allison ‘HUEMAN’
Torneros took her work from graffiti to gallery in the opening of her new show
“Between the Lines.” Hot off the heels of the blowout reception, Project
Gallery is hosting an Artist Talk with HUEMAN, lead by famed art writer and
curator Shana Nys Dambrot, who first became a fan of the artist when she
interviewed her for LA Weekly’s People of 2014 issue.
After a couple years establishing herself as
a muralist / street artist, and crushing walls all over the world (including a
massive, 90-foot wall at the Ian Ross Gallery in San Francisco), “Between the
Lines” marks the first traditional gallery solo show for the artist, and it was
momentous in more ways than one. The work was the culmination of a style she’s
been crafting her entire career, and an exploration of some very personal
themes. At the artist talk, HUEMAN will be talking about her
medium-spanning work and her evolving style, her travels and collaborations
with other artists, as well as offer advice to young artists trying to put it
out there.

“Of course I am a fan of Hueman's murals and paintings --
emotional, sparkling, dynamic, beautiful, fraught -- but I love speaking with
her about them almost as much as looking at them,” says the Artist Talk host
Shana Nys Dambrot. “She has a very thoughtful, spiritual, passionate way of
talking about what she does that's just as fascinating as the work itself.”
