CHP Plans Massive Enforcement Effort For Memorial Day
CHP has announced the details of the Maximum Enforcement Period for Memorial Day
Memorial Day is this weekend, and drivers know what that means. There are going to be police officers everywhere! The California Highway Patrol has announced that their Maximum Enforcement Period is going to take place from Friday at 6 PM to Monday at midnight, as reported by ThePineTree.net
CHP says that the focus of the campaign isn’t going to be on DUI but on seat belt enforcement. However, you can be sure that they will be hunting for drivers that might have had to go for a beer run in the middle of their Memorial Day parties. While Memorial Day isn’t traditionally a drinking holiday, it is a holiday with a lot of travel.
California’s use of seat belts is much higher than the national average. National seat belt use is around 87%, but in California it is 97%. That said, roughly 25 people died last year during the Memorial Day MEP due to not wearing a seat belt.
Just like avoiding drinking and driving, wearing a seatbelt can save your life. If you are travelling to the beach for fun be sure to click it so you can avoid a ticket. And have a designated beer runner!
