2016 Best Actor Oscar Winner: Leonardo DiCaprio Wins in 88th Academy Awards

Perhaps one of the most anticipated awards of the 88th Annual Academy Awards was for Best Actor. DiCaprio was nominated for 'The Revenant.'

HOLLYWOOD, CA- Leonardo DiCaprio has done it. He’s finally won the Oscar.

As the 88th annual Academy Awards came to its end, the award for best actor in a leading role was presented to DiCaprio.

“None of this would be possible without you,” he said to his mother while thanking her and others.

After his thanks, he turned his speech to the topic of climate change.

“Making The Revenant was about man’s relationship to the natural world,” he said. “Climate change is real, it is happening now... we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”

He urged viewers to not take the world for granted.

“I do not take tonight for granted.”

Later in the night, DiCaprio tweeted his thanks, and again brought up the topic of climate change, as seen below.

“I just feel particularly proud of this film” DiCaprio said from the red carpet Sunday night, appearing calm and collected as he made his way into the ceremony.

Those watching the show to find out if DiCaprio did take home the Oscar had to wait until the show was nearly over— the award for best actor was the second to last to be presented.
