Drunk Carjacker in Sierra Madre had Surprise in his Backpack

An Alhambra man was arrested in Sierra Madre for a scene that reads out of something from Grand Theft Auto, including possible explosives.

One man from Alhambra had a really really bad day last month. Police arrested Felix Lam, a young man after a string of offenses. It all started when Lam ran into a car at Lima Street and Montecito Avenue.

The usual routine would be to exchange information and wait for police. But not in this case. According to the officer, Lam ran away despite the other driver being in pain. Then he ran up to a pedestrian and started punching her!

Another car noticed this and made a U-turn in a driveway. Lam then went to the passenger side window and leapt into it to start punching the passenger, and he apparently tried to carjack the vehicle. Unfortunately for Lam, the passenger got out of the car and subdued him until officers arrived. Lam was taken to the hospital, unconscious.

When the police investigated Lam's vehicle, they found a backpack that may have contained an improvised explosive device. The bomb squad was called and the device was rendered safe. The device is still undergoing testing to confirm if was indeed an explosive.

Lam has since been released from the hospital on his own recognizance. The final charges are DUI, hit-and-run, battery, attempted carjacking, and possible possession of an explosive.

The story reads like something out of the video game Grand Theft Auto, but the charges are no joke. All of the additional charges and witnesses will make it difficult for Lam to escape justice. People who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs can make many poor decisions.
