DUI Patrols Stepped Up For The New Year
LAPD is on the lookout for DUI drivers, especially ones using prescription drugs.
It’s the new year, and besides the celebrations for putting 2017 behind us there’s going to be quite a bit of alcohol consumed. New Year’s Eve is a prime drinking holiday and that means there will be more drunk drivers than usual. The LAPD is going to be on the lookout, as Fox 11 explains.
Since Thursday, LAPD has been stepping up DUI patrols in South LA and other locations. They say that the number of stops has been increasing due to partiers. Six were stopped in an hour at one intersection. They’ve also been warning people about other ways they could get stopped for DUI during the holiday season.
Notably, they are warning people about the dangers of driving on prescription drugs that can make it difficult to operate a vehicle. Many prescription drugs also combine poorly with alcohol, but social pressure could make it hard to resist that glass of champagne when midnight hits.

Another thing they are watching for is marijuana use. Marijuana sales are set to go legal tomorrow, so many people might make a few celebratory puffs. But it’s still illegal to drive under the influence of marijuana.
Want to avoid all this hassle? Police recommend that you use a designated driver app if you plan on partying, or just stay at home and enjoy the holiday there. You could also use a ride sharing app like Uber or a taxi to get around town.
