2 Firefighters Hospitalized As Crews Extinguish East Hollywood Blaze

Firefighters dealt with temps above 90 degrees, leading two to be hospitalized with heat-related illnesses.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — It took 70 firefighter just over two hours to extinguish a fire that broke out at a vacant Normandie Avenue townhouse Tuesday afternoon; the efforts left two firefighters hospitalized.

The fire, located at 570 N. Normandie Ave. just south of Melrose Avenue, was first reported at around 11 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters soon raised it to a Greater Alarm status as the fire spread to the first and second floors, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters were faced with temperatures above 90 degrees as they battled the fire, leading two firefighters to be hospitalized for "heat-related illness," according to the LAFD.

Crews will remain on scene to ensure the fire remains extinguished and no hidden fires remain, working in rotating schedules due to the hot weather, authorities said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
