Flames Engulf Hollywood Apartment Building

The early-morning blaze threatened nearby businesses.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Firefighters needed just 18 minutes Thursday morning to extinguish a blaze in a two-story apartment building over a three-car garage in Hollywood.

Crews responded to the 5800 block of Virginia Avenue, north of Santa Monica Boulevard, at 1:30 a.m. and found heavy fire coming from the building with flames threatening a nearby business, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A total of 32 firefighters kept the fire from spreading beyond the apartments and extinguished the flames. A knockdown was declared at 1:48 a.m., Humphrey said.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
