'Hamilton' Movie With Broadway Cast To Hit The Big Screen

Disney Studios reportedly landed the rights for the worldwide release of "Hamilton" next year for $75 million.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — For the millions of "Hamilton" fans and everybody else who couldn't score Broadway tickets to the smash hit, Disney Studios will release a filmed version of the play on the big screen next year.

"Hamilton" star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, announced the project Monday morning including the movie theater release date in October 2021. According to Deadline, Disney competed for the for the rights to the film paying $75 million for the 2 hour, 40 minute movie filmed before the original cast left the Broadway run.

"Disney presents: Hamilton. With The Original Broadway Cast. Filmed onstage at The Richard Rodgers Theatre. In A Theater Near You. October 15, 2021.#Hamilfilm," Miranda tweeted.

"Lin-Manuel Miranda created an unforgettable theater experience and a true cultural phenomenon, and it was for good reason that `Hamilton' was hailed as an astonishing work of art," Disney CEO and Chairman Bob Iger said. "All who saw it with the original cast will never forget that singular experience. And we're thrilled to have the opportunity to share this same Broadway experience with millions of people around the world."
