Hollywood Craftsman To Be Saved As Child-Care Facility In Deal With Target Corporation

The Los Angeles City Council approved a $1.2 million effort to save a historic home and convert it into a child-care facility.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — A 1911 Craftsman home in Hollywood might be saved from demolition and converted into a child-care facility with an affordable housing unit after the City Council approved the plan Wednesday.

The project would be paid for with $1.2 million in fees from the Target Corporation, which agreed to pay for child-care facilities as part of a new project approved at the corner of Western Avenue and Sunset Boulevard.

"We need to come up with creative solutions to help us build healthy, sustainable communities, while preserving the unique character in our neighborhoods," said Councilman Mitch O'Farrell, who represents the area and proposed the project. "I'm excited about the possibilities here, and I am putting this call out to our local networks for qualified applicants to get in touch with the city regarding this space."
