Hollywood Pays Disproportionate Brunt of City's Street Sweeping Fines

According to an interesting LA Times report examining the city’s street sweeping policies, residents and guests in Hollywood pay an inequitable proportion of the city’s $50 million in annual street sweeping fines.
It’s no secret that parking in Hollywood is in short supply, and residents who have limited street parking options are hit hard by the $73 street sweeping tickets.

The newspaper reported that Hollywood accounts for more than 30,000 street sweeping tickets in a year, and the hardest hit blocks are Hawthorn and North Sycamore Avenues.
City officials say they have to focus their street sweeping efforts on the most dense neighborhoods because of the heavy traffic. But the LA Times cites critics who call the explanation disingenuous. They argue that the policy is more about ticket revenue than keeping the streets clean because half of the city doesn’t even have street sweeping.
