LA Gets Bike Traffic Signals and Protected Bike Lanes

As part of the drive to end traffic fatalities in Los Angeles, the city installed downtown traffic signals and guarded lanes for cyclists.

LOS ANGELES, CA - Bicycle traffic signals were installed along Los Angeles Street in downtown's civic center area, along with other cyclist- friendly improvements, city officials said this week.

The $775,000 worth of installations include four signals that tell bicyclists when it is their turn to go and a bus platform set away from the sidewalk so buses will not need to use up bike lane space to pick up passengers.

Posts also were set up along the street to protect the bike lanes from car traffic.
The improvements were made along Los Angeles Street, between Alameda and First streets, near Los Angeles City Hall's east building.
