MADD Holds Vigil for California Drunk Driving Victims

A recent vigil organized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in Long Beach was put together to help family's grieve.

A recent vigil organized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in Long Beach was put together to help the survivors of drunk driving process their grief.

The event was held on Saturday evening. MADD says that approximately 1,000 people lose their lives in the state of California each year to drunken driving crashes. The rate of fatalities in 2014 was at 9,967 fatalities across the United States.

Even the police are not unaffected by drunken or impaired driving. The Los Angeles Police Department lost officer Chris Cortijo in the spring of 2014 after a woman who was accused of being high on drugs crashed her vehicle into Officers Cortijo’s motorcycle.

The problem of DUI driving has shown no sign of abating. In 2015, there were 12,000 people booked on suspicion of DUI just in the city of Los Angeles.
