Woman Killed In Fiery Hit-And-Run Crash On Sunset Boulevard

A woman trapped in the vehicle died in the Sunset Boulevard wreck, two passengers were injured and the driver fled the scene, police said.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — One person died and three others were injured in a crash early Monday morning on Sunset Boulevard. The driver of the vehicle, which crashed in a fiery wreck, fled the scene, according to police.

The driver of the Tesla Model X got out of the vehicle, was picked up by someone else and driven to a hospital. He was in critical condition late Monday morning and unable to be interviewed, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The crash occurred at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, but the burning vehicle came to rest on Sunset near Roxbury Road in West Hollywood, according to Lt. J. Aguirre of the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station.

The driver lost control of the while while heading west on Sunset, striking a lamp post and a tree before the vehicle burst into flames, KTLA reported.

Two women were ejected from the vehicle, NBC Los Angeles reported.

A woman riding in the front passenger seat died at the scene and two other women riding in the back were injured. They were taken to a local hospital; one is in stable condition and the other in critical condition, according to the LAPD.

The driver was able to get out of the vehicle and fled the scene, according to KTLA.

Video from the news stations shows the vehicle completely engulfed in flames in the middle of Sunset. Authorities shut down the boulevard for the investigation and cleanup, which included covering the charred remains of the vehicle in a tent.
