Police worked to coax down a naked man strutting atop a Metro bus on Sunset Boulevard Thursday afternoon.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA -- A portion of Sunset Boulevard was shut down Thursday afternoon while sheriff's deputies worked to coax a naked man down from the top of a Metro bus.

The man strutted and pranced in the buff atop a Metro bus on one of the busiest streets in Los Angeles County before authorities were able to take him into custody.

The incident began shortly before 2 p.m. when the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department received a call about a naked man walking down Sunset Boulevard.

That's when a Metro bus stopped to pick up passengers at Sunset Boulevard and North Kings Road, said Ramon Montenegro of the Sheriff's Transit Policing Division. The man climbed up the bike rack at the front of the bus and began strutting up and down the length of the bus.

The driver called for help, and responding deputies had to wait for the fire department to arrive with ladders to bring the man safely down.

"He was obviously a mentally disturbed person," Montenegro said. "He obeyed commands, and they put him on backboard so they could hand him down safely."

The man was taken to Cedar Sinai for a mental evaluation.

"I can’t say i have ever seen anyone climb up on a bus totally nude, but we have seen some other strange things," Montenegro added.

He warned residents not to try to intervene when they see someone behaving erratically or nude in public. Instead, he urged residents to call the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department at 888 950-SAFE.
