Anaheim, CA(Hollywood Today)1/29/14–The NAMM Show proved to be entertaining, informative, enlightening and deafening. After attending for the last 20 years one would think that some lessons could be learned. Having also attended the Frankfurt Music Messe it is possible to see a convention of this magnitude organized correctly.

The first major critique is the sound level. After a few hours on the convention floors one is under the impression that the instruments are better classified as weapons than musical merchandise. The halls should be divided as in Frankfurt by musical genre. Brass instruments and percussion should not be mixed in with string instruments. This has been the case at NAMM always and it is not fair to the musicians, exhibitors or buyers. Drums and brass instruments are being blasted at maximum volume with no regulation and a violin cannot hope to compete.
