Pedestrian Killed On Hollywood Freeway

It was unclear why the 70-year-old man was walking along the number 5 lane of the Hollywood (101) Freeway early Friday morning.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — A 70-year-old man walking along the number 5 lane of the Hollywood (101) Freeway was fatally struck by a car early Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 1:10 a.m. on the northbound 101 Freeway, south of Gower Street in Hollywood, CHP Officer G. Jimenez said.

According to the CHP accident report, the involved car was a 2007 Nissan driven by 34-year-old Sol Vang of Sanger, California, near Fresno.

After hitting the pedestrian, Vang and his passenger exited the freeway and called 911, then got back on the freeway and waited for the CHP to arrive, Jimenez said.

Neither he nor his passenger were injured.

The pedestrian died at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

It was unclear why the man was on the freeway. Neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash was asked to call the CHP at 323-259-3200.
