Police Chase Ends In Fiery Crash On 101 Freeway

A suspect led police on a high-speed chase up the 101 Freeway, which ended in a fiery multi-car crash that shut down the freeway.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — A stolen car chase ended in a fiery crash that shut down the Hollywood (101) Freeway Monday night.

The chase suspect was ultimately taken into custody and thousands of commuters were stuck on the northbound side of the freeway while authorities attempted to clean up the wreckage.

The chase began at 7:08 p.m. in the area of Third Street and Rampart Boulevard in the Westlake district and ended about 7:20 p.m. on the freeway near Melrose Avenue in East Hollywood, according to Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

An SUV, reported by KCAL9 to be the vehicle that was being chased, collided with other vehicles and burst into flames, prompting a closure of all northbound lanes of the freeway.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was seriously injured in the collision.
