LOS ANGELES, CA — England's Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, never ones to do the expected, have moved to Los Angeles at the outset of the coronavirus pandemic.

The pair reportedly left their home in Canada on a private plane headed for Los Angeles with their 10-month-old son Archie. According to the British newspaper The Sun, the pair were seeking to cross the border between the United States and Canada before the coronavirus pandemic could force the borders to close.

The Sun did not disclose where in Los Angeles the maverick prince and his family plan to live.

The paper quoted a royal insider saying the move had been in the works for some time.

The couple has been living in Canada since they rocked the monarchy by announcing plans to step back from royal duties, renouncing public funding and giving up some of their titles in the process. Markle is a native of Hollywood, and her mother still lives in the Los Angeles area.

"They realized Canada would not work out for various reasons and they want to be based in the Los Angeles area," the insider said.

"They have a big support network there. It's where their new team of Hollywood agents... and business managers are based. Meghan has lots of friends there and, of course, her mum Doria."

Markle provided the narration for the Disney documentary "Elephants," which begins streaming next Friday on Disney+.

Since leaving England, the trio had been living in a home on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

The unorthodox prince and princess shocked royal watchers last month with an Instagram post declaring their desire to “carve out a progressive new role within this institution...This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”

The news caught Buckingham Palace off guard, prompting a statement in response and a series of negotiations to accommodate the couple’s wish to create some distance.
