Reports Of Gunman Prompt Lockdown At Hollywood LA Fitness

Residents are advised to shelter in place while officers search for a possible gunman between Hollywood and Sunset boulevards.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Police are investigating reports of a gunman between Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard at North El Centro Avenue.

The LA Fitness at the location is on lockdown while police search the parking structure for the suspect. However, no shots have been fired and officers have yet to confirm that a gunman was in the area.

"We've got the place surrounded, and we are going level-by level searching," said Officer Jeff Lee, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.

Officers were responding to reports that a man was spotted in the area armed with a gun. As of 11:30 a.m. Friday, officers still had made contact with the suspect. Initial reports of an active shooter on social media were false, according to the LAPD.
