Sentencing Delayed in False DUI Case
The Los Angeles Times reported on how a private investigator tried to dig up some dirt on political opponents and filed a false DUI report.
Not every DUI charge is correct. Most of the time, an incorrect charge is because of a misinterpretation of circumstances or problems with evidence. But in very rare occasions a DUI charge is entered fraudulently, as what happened in this case.
The Los Angeles Times reported on how a private investigator tried to dig up some dirt on political opponents and filed a false DUI report against a councilman from Costa Mesa. In total, the man plead guilty to three felony counts of conspiracy to commit a crime and one felony count of false imprisonment by violence, menace, fraud or deceit.
The sentencing on this case has been delayed while the judge reviews the evidence further. Initially the PI plead not guilty, but then suddenly switched his plea. Another PI wrapped up in the case has plead not guilty and is expected to fight the charges.

The political investigation is said to have started when a now-defunct legal firm representing the Costa Mesa Police Association hired the private investigators to find negative information about several council members, including two running for election. However, both the law firm and the police association deny wrongdoing. They said they cut ties with the PIs after the false DUI report was uncovered.
