HOLLYWOOD, CA — Two young hikers were hoisted to safety Monday near the Hollywood sign where they found themselves stuck as night fell. Crews had the delicate task of trying to lower rescuers into the steep terrain amid overhead power lines.

The Los Angeles Fire Department got the call for help just before 8 p.m. Monday in the 3800 block of North Mt Lee Drive. Two young women in their early 20s had become stranded in the steep terrain as the sun set over the Hollywood Hills.

Ultimately, "firefighters executed a two-line rope system and lowered rescuers down to the two hikers and each were brought up to safety without injury," according toe Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
