Video: Robbers Target Schoolgirls On Melrose Avenue

Police are asking for help finding six suspects involved in a violent strongarm robbery targeting girls walking to school.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Four men and women robbed a pair of schoolgirls in broad daylight in the Fairfax District this week, and the Los Angeles Police Department released video of the violent robbery Friday in hopes of catching the brazen criminals.

The entire robbery was captured on a nearby shop's security camera.

The girls were walking to school in the 7600 block of Melrose Avenue at about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday when they were approached from behind, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Two women struck the girls and dragged them to the ground by their hair.

"The suspects demanded that they hand over their cellphones, then held them by their hair until they unlocked the access codes to the phones," the department said in a statement.

In the video, the girls can be seen trying to protect themselves from the violent attack while handing over their phones.

After the attack, the four suspects fled in vehicle waiting nearby with two suspects inside acting as lookouts, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The vehicle was last seen heading southbound.

According to police, the first suspect was an 18-year-old woman earing a gray sweatshirt and jeans.

The other three suspects, a woman and two men, were slender and wore hoodies. Authorities did not have a description of the suspects in the waiting vehicle.
