Darker Waves Returns To Huntington Beach With A Massive Celebration Of New Wave, Post-Punk And Alternative Music (metaladdicts.com) — Huntington Beach City Beach will host the Darker Waves Festival on November 14, transforming the shoreline into a massive one-day celebration of new wave, post-punk, goth, and alternative music. With more than 35 artists across three stages, including Morrissey, The Smashing Pumpkins, Simple Minds, and Bad Religion, locals can expect thousands of black-clad fans and a striking collision of surf and goth culture.
2. Five-time world champ Carissa Moore to host fundraiser in Huntington Beach (ocregister.com) — A women's mental health and empowerment fundraiser led by five-time world surfing champion Carissa Moore is coming to Duke's Restaurant in Huntington Beach on Sept. 8, supporting her Moore Aloha workshops. The evening will feature dinner, cocktails, a silent auction, and appearances by Moore and special guests, with proceeds funding future programs in California, Hawaii, and beyond.
3. Update: 2.1 magnitude earthquake shakes near Huntington Beach, CA on Aug. 30 (sacbee.com) — A minor 2.1 magnitude earthquake struck about a mile north of Huntington Beach on Sunday afternoon, with some residents reporting light shaking. While there was no reported damage, officials are reminding locals to review basic earthquake safety steps like drop, cover, and hold on, and to report what they felt to the U.S. Geological Survey.
4. Costa Mesa Gears Up For More Breathalyzers at Bars (voiceofoc.org) — Huntington Beach police will share in more than $41 million in state cannabis tax-funded traffic safety grants aimed at reducing drug- and alcohol-related DUIs across Orange County. While Costa Mesa's bar-focused breathalyzer outreach is the centerpiece, Huntington Beach residents can expect similar overtime-funded DUI saturation patrols and education campaigns targeting high-collision areas and late-night hotspots.
