Tony Strickland of Huntington Beach has created California Wildlife Day to honor Jackie, the widely watched Big Bear bald eagle who died in August. 4. Costa Mesa leaders update required housing plan but question effectiveness of state methods (ocregister.com) — Costa Mesa officials just approved a state-required housing plan while openly doubting whether the system will actually produce affordable homes, and they point to Huntington Beach's costly legal fight over similar mandates as a cautionary tale. For Huntington Beach residents, the story highlights how regional housing quotas, rezoning, and potential fines are reshaping coastal cities' growth and local control debates.
