(Patch Media)

Happy Sunday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening in Huntington Beach today.

There was a fatality at the scene of the fire we reported on yesterday. Also, the City is getting proactive about dealing with trash disposal. Finally, Sean Joyce is the new Interim City Manager.

First, today's weather:

Cool with clouds and sun. High: 62 Low: 48.

Here are the top stories in Huntington Beach today:

  1. Update on the Harbour Lane Fire: We learned later on Friday that there was a fatality. The HBFD explains that they found a deceased male in front of the location. It appears that a neighbor removed him from the home. An investigation is ongoing. (HBFD)
  2. Update on HB Trash Pickup: On Friday, the City has had some strong words for Republic Services and its response as a vendor. Referring to it as "vague, noncommittal and generic," officials plan to deploy contingencies next week. Starting Monday, there will be two "large roll-off bins available for public use at the City's Corporate Yard at 17371 Gothard Street," with staff members willing to assist with heavy items. More information will be forthcoming next week. (City of HB)
  3. Sean Joyce is the Interim City Manager. The City Council announced Friday that it has selected Joyce and will formally put the matter to a vote on Tuesday. He retired as Irvine's City Manager in 2018. At this time, the City anticipates finding a permanent replacement for the outgoing City Manager, Oliver Chi, "at some point during the first half of 2022." (City of HB)
  4. The Huntington Beach Fire Department/Marine Safety Division's (HBFD) launched its presence on the new SafeBeachDay.com site last Thursday. Beachgoers find real-time information on tides, stingray reports by lifeguard tower, and parking lot capacity. It's a good site to check before taking the family for a beach day in the summer! (Surf City Break)
  5. The Taquería De Anda-Grill at 17969 Beach Boulevard is open! Meats include 100% Angus Beef, Al Pastor, Cabeza, Lengua, Pollo, Buche, Carnitas, Chorizo, and Shrimp. Check out the al pastor off the trompo! This eatery is the modern approach to the 36-year-legacy of the Taquería De Anda, which moved to Lake Forest. If you need a place for Taco Tuesday, here's your suggestion! (Taqueria De Anda Grill)
