Good morning, Huntington Beach! Let's get you started this Sunday with everything you need to know going on today in town.

Crews removed 500,000 pounds of tarballs. Also, they unearthed a layer of buried oil. Finally, you may have caught the big one, but don't eat it!

First, today's weather:

Fog, then sun. High: 66 Low: 55.

Here are the top stories in Huntington Beach today:

  1. Two dead guitarfish were found at the beach Friday and turned over to biologists for examination to see if they are victims of the oil spill. Cleanup crews have, so far, "cleared about a third of the shoreline." Some 500,000 pounds of "tarballs, oil-tainted sand, seaweed, and driftwood" were removed. (Fox 11)
  2. On Thursday, Supervisor Katrina Foley reported that there was a "thin layer of buried oil" discovered in HB. It measured over 150 yards, which meant that cleanup crews had to bring in heavy equipment. On the bright side, there have been no reports of oiled wildlife in two days. (@SupervisorFoley)
  3. You already know that fisheries are closed until about the first week of December. However, remember that you shouldn't eat anything you catch, either. This pertains to any fish caught from "Huntington Beach to Newport Beach, Laguna Beach south to Dana Point." (Patch)
  4. Children between the ages of 5 and 11 now also qualify to get the COVID-19 vaccination, officials said Wednesday. The shots are offered through the OC Health Care Agency. Just as was the case for adults, this is a two-regimen Pfizer shot. (Patch)
