16-Year-Old Stabbed At Veterans Park In Imperial Beach: Sheriff
A teen was stabbed in the lower abdomen during a Wednesday afternoon fight, police say. One suspect has been arrested.
IMPERIAL BEACH, CA — A 16-year-old was stabbed during a fight in Veterans Park Wednesday, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
Police received reports of an active fight between multiple teenagers at the park on Wednesday at around 2:40 p.m., according to Sgt. Samuel Lizarraga of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Upon arrival, deputies saw a 16-year-old boy with a stab wound to his lower abdomen area. Medics treated the victim and transferred him to UCSD Hospital to undergo emergency surgery. He is reported to be in stable condition, SCSD said.
Shortly after the incident, the mother of the alleged suspect called the Sheriff’s dispatch to say that her son was involved in the incident, and provided his location. The suspect told deputies that he stabbed the victim in self-defense, though SCSD said that preliminary evidence contradicts that claim. Deputies seized two knives from his home, and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and booked into San Diego Juvenile Hall.
