2016 Sun and Sea Festival Set For July 16 On Sand At Imperial Beach

Professional and kids sandcastle building highlights, free, family-friendly, no-alcohol event

Imperial Beach, CA — On Saturday, July 16, professional and amateur sand carving teams compete in one of San Diego County’s most beloved traditions. The free, family-friendly, no-alcohol event, includes a street festival and live musical entertainment.

New this year is the expanded Kids Zone from Dunes Park to Old Palm Ave filled with kid-friendly fun and entertainment. Professional sand carvers will compete from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free public viewing of the sand castles throughout the day until 4 p.m.

FRIDAY ACTIVITIES
Several activities take place on Friday, July 15 leading up to the Sandcastle Competition.

8 am -- Mayor’s 2nd Annual Imperial Beach Pier Swim & Paddle

8 am -- 3k Beach Walk/Run starting at the Pier, followed by free Zumba demonstrations

10 am - 11 am- The Mayor’s Breakfast. There will be one exhibition sand castle on display all day Friday.

6 pm - The Sandcastle Ball will take place at the IB Boys & Girls Club

SATURDAY ACTIVITIES

Saturday, July 16- Pier Plaza and Dunes Park areas along Seacoast Drive, Imperial Beach
7 am – 9 am Pancake Breakfast – Pier Plaza
9 am -10 am Parade along Seacoast Drive
9 am – 2 pm Masters and Amateurs Sandcastle Building Competition
10 am – 5 pm Street Festival open along Seacoast Drive
10 am – 5 pm Kids Zone in Dune’s Park and along Seacoast north to Palm
Noon – 1:30 pm Kids ‘n Kastles Competition adjacent to Dune’s Park
4 pm Sandcastle Awards Ceremony at Pier Plaza

No skateboards, bikes, smoking and alcohol will be allowed in the festival area or on the beach. Do not leave unattended pets in a locked car due to summer heat.

ADA Parking: Parking located at Imperial Beach Boulevard and Seacoast, just south of the festival area.
