Β· Fill the dishwasher all the way – When you fill the dishwater fully before running it, you use less water and energy per dish. Remember to scrape remaining food off plates instead of rinsing them before loading them into the dishwasher.

Β· Plug the sink when washing dishes – Plugging the sink or using washbasin to clean up by hand can limit the amount of water that is wasted.

Β· Say yes to showers – Showers use less water than baths. Just keep an eye on how much time you spend lathering up in there.

Β· Thaw frozen foods in the refrigerator – Running hot water over frozen foods to thaw them out wastes a lot of water. You’re better off defrosting them in the refrigerator overnight.

Β· Turn off water when brushing your teeth – Shutting off the tap while you’re shaving or brushing your teeth means less water is wasted down the drain.

Β· Avoid running the tap for drinking water – Keep a pitcher of drinking water in the refrigerator instead of letting the faucet run until the water is cool.

Β· Check plumbing fixtures for leaks – Small household leaks can add up to gallons of water lost every day. Check your plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems to ensure you’re not unwittingly wasting water.
