Alleged Currency Smuggler Arrested on I-5: Border Patrol
It may look like an ATM, but those 20s are coming out of a tail light.
U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a man Monday for allegedly smuggling a large sum of money in his pickup. They report that $137,017 was seized.
The man was stopped on southbound Interstate 5 around 8 a.m. Agents asked him for permission to search the back end of his truck. They report finding bundles of cash in the tailgate area. Agents arrested the man and transported the vehicle to a nearby station for further investigation. Agents found additional bundles of cash behind the truck tail lights and in the man’s pockets.
The man, a 40-year-old U.S. citizen whose name was not released, was turned over to agents from Homeland Security Investigations for currency smuggling. The cash and vehicle were seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
