• San Diego County supervisors greenlight plan to build own Tijuana River treatment plant (kansascity.com) — San Diego County supervisors have approved funding to design a new sewage capture and treatment system for the Tijuana River, a move aimed squarely at protecting South Bay communities like Imperial Beach from chronic pollution and beach closures. Over the next 18 months, engineers will study options while a November countywide sales tax measure could ultimately provide up to $1 billion for long-term fixes.

• Scripps Student Spotlight: Aurora Czajkowski (ucsd.edu) — An Imperial Beach native, PhD student Aurora Czajkowski is now at Scripps Institution of Oceanography researching how pollution from the Tijuana River Valley and southern San Diego moves through the ocean and air. Her work, inspired by growing up surfing in polluted local waters, aims to inform better protections for coastal communities like Imperial Beach through science and policy outreach.

• September 2026 Events from the Ocean Beach Green Center (obrag.org) — Imperial Beach residents can look ahead to San Diego Coastkeeper's Seaside Soiree on September 10 at Brambly Bay Venue on 13th Street, bringing environmental advocates together over dinner, music, and bay views.
