Mossy Nissan Turns Over New Leaf-- Eco-friendly car is perfect fit for San Diego Lifestyle

Mossy Nissan, San Diego’s premiere Nissan dealership, is now taking orders for the new all-electric Nissan Leaf at all six locations throughout the County.

β€œWe are proud to be among the first to offer this amazing vehicle,” said Leon Kamins, General Manager of Mossy Nissan Kearny Mesa. β€œThe Leaf is a car unlike any Nissan has ever built, and unlike any hybrid or electric vehicle on the market.Β  Nissan has put power and performance into the most ecologically friendly mass-produced automobile ever made. The Nissan Leaf is the perfect fit for San Diego and the way we use our cars.”

The Leaf is the first all-electric, 5-passenger family car to enter mass production in the world and has already changed the electric car marketplace. The zero-emission car may be eco-friendly, complete with seats made from recycled materials, but it looks, feels and drives just like a normal car. Its body styling is consistent with most Nissan products and is reminiscent of the popular Versa.

β€œThe ride is so smooth and so much like driving a performance-oriented sports car, it’s easy to forget you’re in a vehicle powered exclusively by electricity,” said Kamins.

With 107 horsepower, the nimble and sporty Leaf can go 0-60 in 8.0 seconds and has a top speed of over 90 mph. Both models come with an onboard navigation system, MP3 player ports and reaches Nissan’s high safety standards with front-wheel drive and a responsive 4-disc, anti-lock breaking system.

With good weather conditions, the Leaf’s range is 100 miles on a fully charged battery, more than enough for most San Diego commuters to enjoy their ride to and from work without any range anxiety. There’s even an iPhone app that lets you monitor your Leaf’s battery life.

In addition to being a great car, the Nissan Leaf is an important strategic component in San Diego’s move toward being the nation’s leader in Green Tech, as part of that push is the widespread deployment of electric car charging stations. Balboa Park is already home to 10 such stations that are free to the public. By the end of 2011, a major San Diego initiative plans to install 1000 more throughout the region, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for only a small fee to drivers. Some companies, like Qualcomm, will even be installing free stations for employees who purchase a Leaf so they can top off on the job.

Charging at home will only cost drivers an average $30 more a month on their utility bill, which is easily outweighed by the more than $300 they will save each month at the pumps. With federal and state rebates available for at-home charging stations, home installation is convenient and as affordable as the Leaf itself.

β€œAt Mossy Nissan we have priced the Leaf to literally pay for itself,” said Kamins. β€œBecause the average driver will save between $300 and $400 a month in gas, and with our lease rates starting at $299.00 per month, most drivers will actually break even on the vehicle or even save a few dollars every month. Has there ever been another car you could say that about?”
