Body Found In Wrecked Car Next To South Bay Freeway Ramp

NATIONAL CITY, CA — A 21-year-old motorist was found dead Tuesday in a wrecked car alongside a South Bay freeway connector near the Sweetwater River.

A 911 caller reported finding man's body in the driver's seat of the damaged blue Nissan 350Z coupe behind a business on West 35th Street in National City about 6:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators believe the vehicle crashed off the nearby ramp from northbound Interstate 5 to eastbound state Route 54, CHP public affairs Officer Sal Castro said. It was unclear when the fatal accident occurred.

"It (also) is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor," the spokesman said.
