CA Border Patrol Fatally Shoots Man After Vehicle Chase

CAMPO, CA — A vehicle chase near the U.S.-Mexico border ended in a shooting that left one man dead. The man was shot and killed in Campo by three U.S. Border Patrol agents after attempting to evade officers, sheriff's officials said Saturday.

Just before 10:30 p.m., Border Patrol agents began chasing a vehicle with three adult men inside, according to Lt. Thomas Seiver of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Homicide Unit.

The chase came to an end at a gas station parking lot at SR-94 and Buckman Springs Road, where the driver was shot by agents.

"A confrontation ensued, resulting in three agents discharging their firearms," Seiver said. "The driver of the vehicle was struck by gunfire."

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was immediately pronounced dead.

No agents were injured during the incident, NBC reported.

The incident marks the second time this year that border agents have shot and killed someone near the U.S.-Mexico border. In October, A U.S. Border Patrol agent shot and killed a man involved in an altercation with the agent on federal property Friday near the U.S.-Mexico border in San Ysidro, police said.
