Driver Killed In South Bay Freeway Wreck

A South Bay freeway crash left a 28-year-old motorist dead Monday, authorities reported.

NATIONAL CITY, CA — A South Bay freeway crash left a 28-year-old motorist dead Monday, authorities reported.

The San Diego man was heading south on Interstate 805 in National City shortly after 2 a.m. when his Honda Civic collided with a Hyundai Elantra, then veered off the roadway north of Division Street and tumbled down an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Honda died at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.

The other motorist, a 21-year-old Chula Vista man, suffered no injuries, CHP public-affairs Officer Salvador Castro said.
