Good Samaritan Pulls Driver From Burning Car on I-805

SAN DIEGO, CA – A fast-acting good Samaritan rescued a severely injured motorist from a crumpled and burning car Thursday following a South Bay freeway collision, authorities reported.

The accident occurred shortly before 11 a.m., when a 2005 Hyundai Accent veered out of control for unknown reasons on southbound Interstate 805 in Chula Vista, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The car careened off a center wall near Telegraph Canyon Road, then crashed into a 1998 Ford F-250 and caught fire, the CHP reported.

A witness to the wreck got out of a vehicle, rushed over to the Hyundai and pulled the badly hurt driver out as flames spread underneath the front of his damaged car. An ambulance crew took the 59-year-old Tijuana resident to UCSD Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 32-year-old National City man, was uninjured, the Highway Patrol reported.
