Imperial Beach SDG&E Customers Lose Power

Other cities in San Diego County also were affected.

IMPERIAL BEACH, CA -- Dozens of San Diego Gas & Electric customers in various cities around the county were without power for a time on Thanksgiving, including some in Imperial Beach and cities in the South Bay, according to the utility's website.

According to an NBC7 report, an exploding transformer in the Chula Vista area was to blame, but an SDG&E representative could not confirm the report. At 1:30 p.m., power was restored to 12 customers in Imperial Beach, who were without electricity for four-and-a-half hours.

The utility said a ``combination of factors'' led to a power outage for the Chula Vista area, but did not give a reason for the outage in Imperial Beach.

An outage was also reported at 4:45 p.m. for El Cajon and the Fletcher Hills community. SDG&E at the time said it was looking into the cause, but no further details were available. SDG&E estimated power was restored by 10 p.m.
