Imperial Beach Shoreline Closed Due To Runoff From Tijuana River
Water samples indicate contamination of ocean water now extends from the border north to the Imperial Beach shoreline, officials said.
IMPERIAL BEACH, CA — A water contact closure at the Tijuana Slough shoreline was extended Tuesday north to Imperial Beach due to sewage contamination, the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health announced.
Sewage-contaminated runoff in the Tijuana River has been entering the Tijuana Estuary, and water samples indicate contaminated ocean water now extends from the International Border north to the Imperial Beach shoreline, DEH officials said.
Signs warning of sewage-contaminated water will remain in place until sampling results indicate the ocean water is safe for recreational use.
