THE KILLING: The Complete Fourth Season Shocks on DVD!

On DVD from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is the highly successful television series THE KILLING: The Complete Fourth Season.

The season comes in as Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) is having difficulty dealing with the death of serial killer James Skinner. Trying to help is partner Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) and when another case comes to their attention.

This time the duo must investigate the murder of a family with only one survivor. Kyle Stansbury (Tyler Ross) becomes a suspect immediately. Linden and Holder go to the young man’s military academy speaking with Col. Margaret Rayne (Joan Allen) to find out if Kyle has a violent temper and could be capable of such a thing.

What has Linden jumpier than a cat on a hot tin roof is that there are similarities between the shootings and the death of Skinner. But even more disturbing is the discovery that Kyle’s home life was filled with strange behaviors.

Trying to get answers, Linden seems to only dig up more and more questions. In the meantime, Riddick (Gregg Henry) is beginning to ask questions about Skinner and Linden wants to come clean. Holden tells her he can’t do that after discovering his girlfriend DA Carole Swift (Jewel Staite) is pregnant.

Kyle reaches out to Linden when someone keeps putting maps with the instructions to finish what was started. What is going on at the academy has Linden wondering who else is hiding the truth. Holden calls her when body bags and Skinner’s car is being pulled from the lake.

It all comes together as clues become clearer and the final murdering secrets are revealed. Now, Linden and Holder must decide for themselves how they will handle their own secrets.

It is time to get free!

Enos as Sarah Linden was the perfect choice to play this role. From the first season to the last she embodied this character with a darkness and emotional wall needed to make Linden believable. I wouldn’t change one single solitary thing and will quite honestly will miss this series. Enos’ reactions, uber smarts and fleeting moments of emotions are everything fans wanted from Sarah Linden and she gave it in every episode.

Kinnaman as Holder started out as a cop with an attitude with an underlying problem. Coming on the scene this character is rag-tagged and doesn’t want to work with Linden any more than Linden wants to work with him. Then … that moment where the two characters click and it is a brilliant partnership that can’t be more impressive if it tried.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give THE KILLING: The Complete Fourth Season four and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. I am absolutely a fan of the series! Based on the Danish television series Forbrydelsen, which is also quite good, THE KILLING should hold its head high.

I was captivated from the very first episode in 2011 because these characters are intense, jaded and yet still will not let go of anything until the truth surfaces. There lives are a hot mess, home lives are disjointed, love just doesn’t seem to find a home with either of these two characters yet they are determined to get the answers to the crimes.

The cinematography is gray, gritty and adds so much depth to the story developer Veena Sud is trying to tell viewers. Clearly she knows what those of us who watch television want and doesn’t cut corners to get us there. Her Emmy and Writers Guild of American nominations were more than well deserved in 2012.

The DVD includes the episodes Blood in the Water, Unraveling, The Good Soldier, Dream Baby Dream, Truth Asunder and Eden. With a running time of 346 minutes, this series doesn’t disappoint fans of THE KILLING.

I will miss Linden and Holder but the ending is something fans will not want to miss so get your copy of THE KILLING: The Complete Fourth Season.

In the end – the past can’t be washed away!
