Man Who Was Fatally Shot In Imperial Beach Identified

The motive for the killing remains unknown.

IMPERIAL BEACH, CA β€” Authorities Tuesday identified a man who was shot to death last weekend in Imperial Beach.

Deputies responded to a report of gunfire shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday and found a man mortally wounded in an alley off the 800 block of Georgia Street in Imperial Beach, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The man was identified as Shelby Dorris Jr., 45, of Imperial Beach, sheriff's Lt. Joel Stranger said.

"Deputies and firefighters conducted lifesaving measures on the man, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene," Stranger said.

Officials have not released a suspect description in the case. The motive for the killing remains unknown.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call the sheriff's Homicide Unit at 858-285-6330 or after hours at 858-565-5200. Remain anonymous by calling San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. Tipsters could be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
